The Editor & Viewer

This guide explains how to confidently use the CustoMED Editor & Viewer. It focuses on navigation, controls, and core behaviors so you understand how the system works before making clinical or planning decisions.

Updated yesterday

The Editor & Viewer consist of four main areas:

  1. 3D Viewer (Center)

  2. Side Menu / Control Panel

  3. Top Navigation & Action Buttons

  4. Measurement & Visualization Tools

Each area works together to help you understand anatomy, make adjustments, and confirm your work.

1. The 3D Viewer (Main Workspace)

The 3D Viewer is where all anatomical models, implants, tools, and PSIs are displayed.

Core Interactions

  • Rotate: click + drag

  • Zoom: mouse wheel / trackpad

  • Pan: right-click drag (or platform equivalent)

  • Select elements: click directly on anatomy, implants, or PSI

Selecting an element may:

  • Highlight it

  • Make it semi-transparent

  • Activate movement controls (gizmo)

  • Show editable options in the side menu

2. Section View & Scroll Bar (Right Side of Viewer)

On the right side of the 3D viewer, you’ll find the section scroll bar.

What it does

  • Slices through the anatomy

  • Allows you to inspect internal geometry

  • Updates dynamically as you move through the model

Section Snap (When Available)

In some indications:

  • A dot appears on the scroll bar

  • This enables section snap

  • The section view snaps to a specific element (e.g. K-wire)

  • The section follows that element’s position and angle in real time

This is especially useful for validating alignment and depth.

3. Side Menu (Control Panel)

The side menu is context-aware and changes depending on:

  • The current workflow step

  • The selected element

  • The supported features of the indication

Hierarchy & Visibility

The side menu is structured in groups and sub-groups.

Example:

  • Implant

    • Implant body

    • Screws

    • Sub-components

Visibility Controls

  • Each group and sub-element can be:

    • Shown

    • Hidden

  • Toggling a parent group affects all its children

  • You can hide individual parts or the entire implant

This helps reduce visual clutter and focus on specific structures.

Selecting & Editing Elements

When you select an element in the 3D viewer:

  • The side menu updates to show relevant controls

  • You may be able to:

    • Swap templates or components

    • Change parameters

    • Adjust visibility

    • Edit measurements (when supported)

Not all elements are editable in all steps, this is intentional.

4. Measurements Panel & Measurement Behavior

Understanding Measurements

Measurements appear as labels in the viewer or side panel.

To understand a measurement:

  1. Click the measurement label

  2. The measurement highlights

  3. A 3D visualization shows how it is calculated

  4. A description may appear (if available)

Not all measurements have descriptions yet.
The 3D visualization is always the source of truth.

Editable Measurements

Some measurements are editable.

If editable:

  • Click the label

  • Modify by:

    • Typing a value

    • Using step controls (plus / minus / arrow keys)

Important Behavior

  • Entered values may be adjusted slightly

  • This happens due to anatomical, geometric, or safety constraints

  • The final value will be close, but not always exact

5. Views, Tabs & Navigation

Depending on the workflow step, you may see different views or tabs, such as:

  • 3D view

  • CT slice view

  • Overlay views

  • Pre/Post comparison (when available)

Pre / Post View (When Available)

  • Allows comparison between:

    • Before changes

    • After changes

  • Useful for validating the effect of planning or design updates

Availability depends on the indication and step.

6. Top Navigation & Action Buttons

The top bar provides workflow control and case actions.

Confirm Step Button (Top Right)

This is one of the most important buttons in the platform.

What Confirm Does

  • Saves all changes made in the current step

  • Locks in that step’s state

  • Allows you to proceed to the next step

Critical Rule

Changes are saved ONLY when you click Confirm.

If you:

  • Leave the page

  • Refresh

  • Switch steps
without confirming — your changes will be lost.

This applies to:

  • Landmarks

  • Planning

  • Measurements

  • PSI design

Approve Case Button

When you reach the final stages:

  • An Approve Case action may appear

  • Approval is required to:

    • Unlock file downloads

    • Finalize outputs

Approval permissions depend on your role.

7. Undo Behavior

The Undo button allows you to revert recent actions.

What Undo Supports

  • Most 3D viewer interactions

  • Moving and rotating elements

  • Some measurement adjustments

What Undo May Not Support

  • Template or implant swaps

  • Some configuration-level changes

Undo behavior may vary by indication.

8. Default Elements & Clinical Responsibility

In planning steps, the system may:

  • Place default implants

  • Suggest initial positions

These are:

  • Not clinical recommendations

  • Provided only to improve usability

Final clinical decisions are always made by the user.

9. Working Safely & Efficiently in the Editor

Best Practices

  • Confirm frequently

  • Validate landmarks early

  • Use visibility controls to reduce clutter

  • Click measurement labels to understand them

  • Use section view for depth validation

  • Don’t hesitate to go back and iterate

10. What Happens When You Go Back or Change Things

  • You can return to previous steps

  • Modifying earlier steps may reset later ones

  • After PSI confirmation, new confirmations create new versions

This behavior ensures consistency across the workflow.

When to Stop and Review

Pause and review if:

  • Measurements don’t match expectations

  • Anatomy orientation seems off

  • Elements behave unexpectedly

  • You’re unsure whether a change was confirmed

If needed, refresh the page to reset the current step to its last confirmed state.
