DRF: Distal Radius Fracture

The CustoMED workflow for Distal Radius Fracture cases, including reduction.

This guide is for surgeons and clinical teams planning Distal Radius Fracture (DRF) cases in CustoMED. It walks you through the DRF workflow, including the Reduction step that is unique to fracture cases.

Anatomy

  • Primary: radius

  • Reference: ulna (for orientation and alignment context)

Workflow at a glance

  1. Case Details: create the case and upload a CT of the affected wrist and forearm.

  2. Segmentation: review the 3D models of the bone and its fracture fragments.

  3. Reduction: move the fracture fragments back into their intended alignment. See Fracture Reduction (DRF).

  4. Surgery Planning: review and adjust the templates and fixation on the reduced bone. See Implant Templates & PSI Design.

  5. PSI Design: review and adjust the patient-specific guide.

  6. Approve: review and approve the final output, then download the case files. See Downloading Files & Plan Reports.

The Reduction step: clicking the distal fragment, dragging the green arrow to move it while the distance shows, then dragging the red arc to rotate it while the angle shows. The CT outlines follow the fragment

Note: DRF cases have no Landmarks step and no PDF plan report. The Plan Only option is not offered for DRF.

Tips for DRF

  • The plan is built on the reduced anatomy, so review the reduction carefully before you move on to Surgery Planning.

  • Include enough of the radius shaft in the scan to establish a reliable axis.
