LEA: Lower Extremity Analysis

The analysis workflow for lower-limb anatomy and landmarks (femur and tibia).

This guide is for surgeons and clinical teams running a Lower Extremity Analysis (LEA) in CustoMED. LEA is an analysis workflow rather than a guide-producing procedure: it extracts the lower-limb anatomy, lets you place and review landmarks, and then lets you download the anatomy and landmarks for use in other tools. See Landmarks & Anatomical Orientation.

Anatomy

  • Femur and tibia (lower extremity).

  • When they are in the scan, the fibula and talus are shown together with the tibia.

Workflow at a glance

  1. Case Details: create the case and upload a lower-limb CT.

  2. Segmentation: review the 3D models of the femur and tibia.

  3. Landmarks: review and adjust the anatomical reference points used for the alignment analysis.

  4. Approve: review and approve the case.

  5. Download: download the results (see below).

Note: LEA has no Surgery Planning or PSI Design step, no PDF plan report, and the app does not calculate alignment measurements for LEA. Its output is the anatomy and the landmarks.

Downloading results

Along with the 3D anatomy (Anatomies (.stl)), LEA offers a landmarks export (Landmarks (.txt)), so you can take the reference points into other tools. See Downloading Files & Plan Reports.

Tips for LEA

  • Full-length coverage of the femur and tibia gives the most reliable axes.

  • Double-check landmark placement: it directly drives any alignment you calculate from the exported landmarks.
