Technical Data Sheet: Hip Resurfacing Arthroplasty

Scan and anatomy requirements, supported cases, outputs and charges for Hip Resurfacing Arthroplasty (HRA) cases.

This data sheet is for surgeons and clinical teams preparing Hip Resurfacing Arthroplasty (HRA) cases. It lists the scan and anatomy requirements, supported cases, platform outputs and the case charges policy.

Case Criteria

Anatomical Requirements

To ensure a successful case for planning and guide creation, the following anatomical requirements must be met:

Pelvis Requirements

  • Full visibility of the pelvis, including both acetabula and the pubic symphysis.

  • Complete acetabular rim and medial acetabular wall on the operating side.

Femur Requirements

  • Full visibility of the proximal femur on the operating side, including the complete femoral head, neck, greater trochanter and lesser trochanter.

  • Inclusion of the distal femur at the knee, including the femoral condyles, for femoral version and leg length measurements.

  • Inclusion of the opposite hip, including the proximal femur down to the lesser trochanter, for leg length and offset comparison.

The guide is designed on the femoral head of the operating side. The pelvis is planned without a guide (Plan only).

Supported Case Types & Region

  • Left or Right Hip

  • Hip Resurfacing Arthroplasty (HRA)

  • Medial Direct Anterior or Posterior approach

  • Femoral guide types: K-Wire Fixation PSI or Diathermy Marking Slot PSI

  • Plan and PSI, or Plan Only (no guide), selected in Case Output Configuration

Unsupported Case Types

  • Cases involving non-hip joints (e.g., knee, shoulder, spine).

  • CT scans with severe motion or metal artifacts that obscure pelvic or femoral landmarks and prevent reliable segmentation.

  • Existing hip implants on the operating side that obscure the femoral head or acetabulum.

  • Partial datasets missing critical anatomical landmarks listed above (e.g., incomplete femoral head, neck or acetabulum).

STL Segmentation Guidelines

Optional upload of .STL segmentation is accepted under the following conditions:

  • Pelvis STL includes both acetabula and the pubic symphysis.

  • Femur STL includes the femoral head, neck and trochanters, and the distal femur at the knee.

  • STL files should not include pre-implanted components or fixation hardware, unless explicitly uploaded for reference only.

  • Pelvis and each femur should be provided as separate STL files.

Compatibility Statement

This module is not a replacement for clinical decision-making. CustoMED software does not provide therapeutic recommendations. All final planning decisions - including implant design, positioning, and surgical execution - must be made and reviewed by a licensed healthcare professional. A healthcare professional must always rely on their own professional clinical judgment when deciding whether to use any product in the treatment of a specific patient.
